Rugby heroes! Update on “that cat”

The Administrator April 25, 2006

The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) thanks most sincerelymorne

  • Blue Bulls fly half, Morne Steyn
  • Match official Muller van der Necht
  • Medical doctor Gary Joubert

…for their sensible and compassionate actions at Loftus on Saturday 22 April after a kitten had been thrown onto the rugby field. This action was not a joke, not funny in any way, cannot be condoned under any circumstances – and the NSPCA would welcome details of the perpetrator.

It is the actions of Morne Steyn, Muller van der Necht and Dr Joubert that we admire and which the NSPCA puts forward as examples to everyone of how real men with character behave and how heroes (as opposed to cowards) treat helpless living creatures. We are proud of these men and we would appreciate it if everyone else out there who saw the incident and who was concerned, joins us in expressing our thanks and accolades to these individuals.

Morne Steyn managed to catch the terrified young cat on the field of play and pass it to a match official. The duty medical doctor, Gary Joubert, took charge of the kitten and the NSPCA has been told that Dr Joubert took the kitten home and has adopted it.

The NSPCA publicly applauds these actions and wishes to advise Dr Joubert that we extend our appreciation as to include the vaccination and sterilisation of the young cat at our cost.
