With the Tri Nations Test against the Wallabies coming up this Saturday, the South African rugby team reshuffles its members. Francois (Frans) Steyn will be playing fullback and filling up the space of Gio Aplon, who is no longer part of the match 22. Jaque Fourie will replace Juan de Jongh, who gets to start the match off on the bench.
Coach Peter de Villiers is preparing his team for the fifth of the six Tri-Nations matches, one they need to win in order not to come last. Although De Villiers believes in his team, and the Boks have improved their play, they have yet to win any matches this Test. He told reporters in a press conference on Monday that he found the reshuffle to be a difficult but necessary decision, and remarked: “The reality is that there are only 15 places in the starting line-up and I have to do what I believe is best for the team.”
But where the men are unable to win any matches in this year’s Tri Nations Test, the Sprinbok Women gave South African rugby fans reason to cheer after defeating Wales in the pool stage of the World Cup in England. Although they also will have to face Australia next, and also this Saturday. The ladies and their coach are eager to win: it would secure them a place in the semi-finals! You can see the results and fixtures on the World Cup website.
As in any sports event, many fans are lining up to have their say about the strategies and lineups of the teams, because as always criticism is easy and art is difficult.
