Veld fire hits SPCA Letaba

The Administrator August 14, 2012

An appeal for assistance is being made on behalf of the SPCA Letaba in Limpopo whose own kennels and operation base were damaged in a runaway veld fire on 06 August 2012.SPCA fire 7 August 2012 SPCA fire 7 August 2012

It is a huge relief to report that no animals were badly injured. Staff reacted quickly to the emergency and moved animals to safety, away from the immediate danger.

Several dogs were treated for stress. The cattery itself was undamaged. Its resident cats suffered from the effects of smoke but were otherwise unharmed and have recovered.

Speedy action and intervention led to the survival of the animals at the SPCA, which was the immediate priority of the everyone who assisted. Special words of thanks are extended to members of the public who did not hesitate to step in and assist.

There is structural damage and an appeal is made for financial assistance to enable the SPCA Letaba to undertake these repairs. Shade netting over kennels needs to be repaired or preferably replaced. Poles at the paddock for horses have been burned and need to be replaced.

In one section at the SPCA, a tall tree caught fire, then crashed down onto the border fence. This area too requires urgent repair.

If anyone can assist, please donated directly to the SPCA Letaba as indicated below: –
