Grabouw, Elgin Valley, Western Cape, South Africa
Grabouw is located in the Elgin valley of the Western Cape. Grabouw was founded in 1856 by a German man, who named it after Grabau in Germany where he was born.
The internationally known 'Appletiser' drink is made here. The scenery in the region is breathtaking, and consists of apple orchards, pine plantations, open pastures and scenic passes through the mountains.
One of the highlights in Grabouw is the Hottentots Holland hiking trail which ends in Franschhoek. Attractions include Steenbras Dam, Palmiet Hiking Trail, Grabouw Nature Reserve, day tours, country tours, horse trails, mountain biking, tractor rides and the Four Passes Fruit Route.
Another highlight is the Elgin Festival which occurs every year; it draws thousands of people to the flowers, fruit, wines and the range of local products.
